waterman boreham celebrates RIBA award scheme
      november 2011

Waterman Boreham’s Brentwood office is celebrating the news that a project the company worked on has won an accolade in the RIBA 2011 awards.

Newhall residential development in Newhall, Essex has won a private housing award for the Eastern Region in the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) 2011 awards.

Waterman Boreham was involved in providing transport planning advice having prepared a detailed transport assessment to successfully gaining planning application. The transport assessment included a traffic model of the site and its surroundings, using PARAMICS software. On the success of the planning application Waterman Boreham was appointed as a nominated consultant dealing with all the detailed design of highways and drainage for sub-parcels within the overall scheme.

Newhall Projects scheme attempts to create communities that look beyond the ubiquitous executive homes surrounded by suburban gardens and a car to mark your front door.

The Roger Evans masterplan places housing generally at right angles to the roads, creating walled lanes. Richard Murphy built on this idea using largely single-aspect houses where the blind back wall of each house helping to create the enclosure for a private walled garden for its neighbour. This allowed the garden to have a direct relationship to the living space without being overlooked, yet retains a feeling of space.

“Waterman Boreham is very proud to be associated with a project such as this which has been recognised for its approach to innovative development,” said Ali Malik, Associate Director,

“We are delighted for the whole team to hear that it has won such a high-profile award.”

The awards, which are organised by RIBA, recognise Richard Murphy Architects and Roger Evans Associates’ achievement as a landmark project for new housing design.
